Healthy Banana Bread Recipe

Making banana bread is a fantastic way to use up bananas that are becoming overripe and would otherwise be discarded. It’s a healthy sweet that’s so rich and simple to make that you’ll be sorry you didn’t make it sooner hahaha It’s a recipe for banana bread with walnuts, also known as banana nut bread but if you don’t like walnuts you can substitute another dried fruit or leave them out entirely.

Nothing beats making your own healthy banana cake at home with quality ingredients and forgetting about the massive amounts of sugar colorings additives and preservatives found in commercials. So let’s start with this delicious banana bread recipe.

The banana bread or banana bread is a delicious homemade cake perfect for breakfast snack or dessert made with simple and inexpensive ingredients such as ripe bananas, eggs, nuts, and wholemeal spelled and flavored with winter spices such as cinnamon and cardamom. It's one of my favorite guilt-free desserts.

  • Ripe bananas the star of this cake, the more ripe the better.
  • Whole spelled flour delicious and more nutritious than common wheat.
  • Eggs look for them to be class A, and if possible organic, they are the best.
  • Walnuts ( optional ) provide minerals and texture. Olive oil: it uses virgin olive oil of first cold pressing.
  • Cinnamon ( optional ) brings warmth with its very special flavor.
  • Cardamom ( optional ) provide fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. Baking yeast: necessary for the dough to rise.
  • Panela ( optional ) or the whole sugar of your choice.


    1. First, preheat the oven to 180oC and crush the cardamom pods in a mortar removing them and thoroughly grinding the seeds inside. We will make a reservation. Following that, we will crush or crush two of the bananas (the ripest ones) and add them to a bowl where the eggs have been beaten.
    2. Then we'll thoroughly combine everything.
    3. Now add the sugar and oil to that mixture, thoroughly mixing everything together, and set aside.
    4. Then in a separate bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients, except the nuts flour yeast, and spices, and thoroughly combine them.
    5. After that, we'll add the wet mixture to the dry mixture and stir until everything is well combined before adding the chopped walnuts.
    6. Now we'll line a mold with nonstick paper or grease it with oil and flour before putting the dough inside. We will now place the remaining banana on top, cut in half lengthwise to decorate and to add more juiciness to the banana bread when we eat it.
    7. Now is the time to bake the cake at 180oC for 45 minutes, or until a rod inserted into the center comes out clean. 8 Allow cooling before serving or eating the best banana bread you've ever tasted, hehe.


  • The sweeter and richer the bananas are, the riper they are.
  • Despite the fact that their skin is black and ugly these are the best.
  • Buying ripe bananas at the market is less expensive than ripening them at home.
  • If you aren't going to use them right away you can peel and freeze them to use later in banana bread or to make the best homemade banana ice cream.
  • I recommend using whole spelled flour but you can use whatever flour you prefer. If you don't like panela, you can replace it with another whole sugar or with dates, though I've never tried it in this recipe.
  • If you don't like cinnamon or cardamom try vanilla extract or orange zest instead. The 45-minute baking time is indicative.
  • Each oven is different and it may take more or less time depending on the type of flour used.
  • A slightly damp cake will remain but when tested with a toothpick or needle it must come out clean to be ready.
  • Allow it to rest so that it is easier to unmold, and especially if you are not going to consume it whole and will cut it into pieces to store or freeze. It is easier to break when it is hot.
