This week was my birthday and I couldn’t miss it in a house where a homemade birthday cake is made for me at all hours. I believe my favorite pastry ingredient is chocolate if you take a look at the blog you will notice that many of the recipes published on it use chocolate as the main ingredient. So, I had a chocolate birthday cake.
Because it was my birthday I took the day off from work and planned to spend it away from home going for a walk, doing some shopping and then going to eat at a typical Madrid restaurant that claims to have the best stew in the entire city, if not all of Spain.I’m not sure if it’s that bad but I really enjoy that restaurant.
Chocolate Birthday Cake

Here's the recipe for this chocolate cake which I hope you'll make for a birthday, either yours or someone else's because you never know when you'll need a chocolate birthday cake
Ingredients
- 160 g unsalted butter
- 250 g of sugar
- 250 g of egg (4 eggs size L)
- 120 g of pure cocoa powder
- 400 ml of water
- 400 g of flour
- 20 g yeast or Baking Powder
- 5 g pinch of Salt
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl beat the eggs for at least 5 minutes, or until they double in size, then gradually add the sugar while continuing to beat. I always use a whisk it seems to me to be a necessary tool.
- Melt the previously melted butter in a separate bowl. You can either melt it in the microwave or if you don't have one in a saucepan. To the mixture, add the flour, cocoa, salt, and baking powder. Stir in small increments until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous.
- Finally, heat the water slightly, bringing it to a temperature of around 36oC, and incorporate it into the mixture. Stir once more until the water is completely absorbed.
